Aparently The Urban Sout (http://www.theurbansoul.com/index_flash.php) is giving away free Achewood tatooos for the rest of September. I have actually been thinking about getting a tatooo for a while but as much as I love Achewood I'm not sure I want it etched onto my body for all eternity. I was thinking maybe something less dorky than a comic strip character - like maybe a video game inspired tatooo.

That site has a shitload of spelling errors, grammatical errors, and typos. I would be reluctant to get ink done at a place that has such a casual attitude toward details.

Also, Trout, are you in PDX?

Where is their thingy about the free Achewood tattoo? I didn't see it on their website.

I am nervous about getting more ink. Also, I don't think I'd get an Achewood tattoo despite it being my favorite thing ever. I got my tattoo in 1997 at age 18, and throughout its entire life it occasionally burns intensely and tingles for no apparent reason. The skin is also raised, although I'm not sure if that's from scarring or what. I think I'm allergic to the ink. Is it true that tattoo inks have metals in them? That might be part of my metal allergy problem.

i want tattoos very soon.  i was going to have a friend (if you're near louisville and wanting ink, i highly recommend this guy) do my first piece before i left town but i had no time.  if i make it back for my birthday at the end of the month i will be getting it, a large female praying mantis over the left ribcage on my back.  eventually she will be joined by a climbing male either on my right foot or somewhere higher on my leg, headed her way.  then there's the solstice/equinox belt to go around my ribcage, which may be tied to a moon phase cycle, or the various planets, along my spine.  i also want a lip tattoo with a greek humor (melancholy/Earth).

i guess the point is that i like to talk about myself instead of respecting the topic, and that an achewood tattoo, free or not, is not on the running list i've already compiled.  what tattoos to you guys have? can i see pictures/replications?

You can see pics of my tats around here somewhere. I have an ankh and a pi symbol. I want to get the four directions around my navel.

I've always been anti-tattoo, but I've been thinking a bit recently about getting one ruby red slipper (Wizard of Oz type) on each heel. (I'm from Kansas, so WofO holds a lot of meaning for me). So I can, you know, click my heels and go on home.

I have a circular piece of Celtic knotwork on my left shoulderblade (my family is partly Irish). It was done in black ink. It's small, about 3" in diameter. I got one laser treatment out of a series of four that was never completed to remove it in 2002. I never wear revealing clothing in public, so nobody sees it, so I haven't bothered to finish the treatments (I was getting it lasered off in preparation for a wedding that never happened), and I don't think I want to get it retouched because I suspect an ink allergy. Basically the thing is in limbo. It still looks pretty decent because it's rarely been exposed to the sun and only had that one laser treatment. I also don't have any photos of it. If I looked better from the back I'd take a photo in the mirror.

I was getting it removed because I figured the only wedding gown I'd be able to find was a strapless gown, which are highly popular right now. If I ever get married, I would want something similar to Diana's wedding gown, but obviously not as ornate and with far less fabric yardage. DEFINITELY not a 25 foot train, for pete's sake!

If I ever get a tattoo, it's going to be a DNA strand that starts on the back of my shoulder and then spirals around my upper arm.  I'd have the bit on the shoulder as a close up of the DNA, with new nucleotides attaching, then the rest of it slowly getting smaller as it goes down.

Yeah, I'm a huge geek.

No, I am not; I am actually in Baltimore. I just saw the link to the tattoo place off of the Achewood front page.

Also I just joined the Flickr group and noticed that someone got the rabbit ambulance tattooed on her shoulder. Was that anyone from here?

Also, oball, being a geek is awesome. Besides a video game character I've seriously contemplated getting Gödel's Incompleteness Theorems placed somewhere on my body.

I've had a tattoo in my brain for a few years now... a green kangaroo with a yellow Australian seven-pointed star in the middle, to go on one of my biceps.

But I've come to realize that this will never happen.

If I were ever going to get a tattoo, I think I've mentioned before that I would want a Purkinje dendrite tattooed on the back of my head, over my cerebellum. I'm a nerd.

That DNA tattoo sounds awesome, too.

Any reason why you're doing the Australian theme?

I met an American exchange student here last semester who was stoked to show off the new Southern Cross tattoo he'd had done in Sydney.  I didn't have the heart to tell him that Southern Cross tats here are generally associated with idiotic "Aussie Pride" racists such as those seen in the Cronulla riots.
