@achewood Metallica would be a lot less powerful if they ended every show by reciting the ABCs.

Today I just DLed "Magnificent City" which is pretty badass colab between RJD2 (electronic producer) and some other guy from a few years ago.  On the electronic front Calvin Harris has been pretty good and so accessible that anyone I've played him for wants to DL.

On the jazz front I'm going back to listen to all the mid-era Miles Davis which will culminate with a very serious listen of "In A Silent Way."  That album is maximum difficulty.  Also a Return To Forever DVD came out pretty recently, it's mad good.

Rock is basically a dead genre, but I'm listening to Mute Math's sophmore, Armistice.  Mars Volta - Octahedron was better than expected.  And I take it everyone keeps Phoenix is heavy rotation, right?

Also it's been enough years removed to re-listen to Joe Satriani's entire catalog.  Specifically, I'm looking forward to hearing the self-titled album.

funny story: Girls have this one song that sounds totally like sonic youth.

oops.

I think I have to reevaluate them after how much I liked that live show.

I just spend so much of my guitar-playing time trying not to just play catchy motown chord progressions, it is hard to get into a band that just embraces "we are going to play motown-ish chord progressions, screw it."

Oh man, there is a big difference between the instrumental RJD2 Mag City album and the one with the rapper.  The rapper sucks.  The instrumentals are pretty cool and useful for DJing situations.

I swear I saw Girls open for Los Campesinos and I swear they sounded like a shitty jam band. But this doesn't seem to make sense.

It would appear that you would be at least partially correct

Yup, that was it. I remember the first bad was just bad. Girls first song was good and things went downhill rapidly from there. My friend and I both kept checking our watches.

This song was on a mixdisc I sent you years ago.  Is that how you came to know about it?

You know, I think this may well be the case. Actually yeah, I went to see Big Star live in London a few years back on the strength of that song and have loved them completely and utterly since. Paul you are one good man

I'm guessing Chris Bell won't be out on tour with them.
